Middle-earth

There was a time when the world was slowly plunging into darkness and chaos. A time with witchcraft and sorcery. A time where nearly none stood against evil.

Tome of chemical reagents

The tome is an encyclopedia of chemical reagents and components (powder, minerals) in five books compiled by Ibn Sīnā of Zephyria, and completed in 1290. It presents a clear and organized summary of all the chemical knowledge of the time. Although originally written in the Zephyrin language, the book was later translated into a number of other languages. The tome is considered one of the most famous books in the history of Alchemism.

  • Arsenic (poison)

Arsenic is a chemical element. Arsenic occurs in many minerals, usually in conjunction with sulfur and metals, and also as a pure elemental crystal. It was first documented by a scolar named Altun Bernitus in 1150.Arsenic is a metalloid. It can exist in various allotropes, although only the grey form has important use in industry.
The main use of metallic arsenic is for strengthening alloys of copper and especially lead (for example, in alchemical experiments).
Arsenic is notoriously poisonous to multicellular life, although a few species of bacteria are able to use arsenic compounds as respiratory metabolites. Arsenic contamination of groundwater is a problem that affects spesific areas across the world. Mostly in the South-east.

  • Copper sulfate (Poison)

This bright blue salt rock exists as a series of compounds that differ in their degree of hydration and dissolves in water. Copper sulfate is produced industrially by treating copper metal with hot concentrated sulfuric acid. For laboratory use, copper sulfate is usually purchased.

    Chalcanthite (poisonous)
Meaning copper flower, is a richly-colored blue/green water-soluble sulfate mineral. It is commonly found in the late-stage oxidation zones of copper deposits! Due to its ready solubility, chalcanthite is more common in arid/dry regions. The specimen should be never touched with the tongue, as chalcanthite is poisonous. The liquid from chalcanthite will also stain skin blue for several days (Used to track burglers).

    As a weapon:
It is also is a fungicide. Fungicides are chemical compounds or biological organisms used to kill or inhibit fungi or fungal spores. Fungi can cause serious damage in agriculture, resulting in critical losses of yield, quality and profit. Fungicides are used both in agriculture and to fight fungal infections in animals. Chemicals used to control oomycetes, which are not fungi, are also referred to as fungicides as oomycetes use the same mechanisms as fungi to infect plants. Most fungicides that can be bought retail are sold in a liquid form. A very common active ingredient is sulfur, present at 0.8% in weaker concentrates, and as high as 0.5% for more potent fungicides. Fungicides in powdered form are usually around 90% sulfur and are very toxic!

How much is it worth in gold?
Chalcanthite, due to its rich color and beautiful crystals, is a sought after collector's mineral. However, as with its viability as an ore, the solubility of the mineral causes significant problems. First, the mineral readily absorbs and releases its water content, which, over time, leads to a disintegration of the crystal structure, destroying even the finest specimens. So if a perfect specimen is brought before a collector they will pa handsomely for it!

  • Mercury (poison)

Also known as quicksilver. A heavy, silvery element. Mercury is the only metal that is liquid at standard conditions for temperature and pressure. With a freezing point of −38.83 °C and boiling point of 356.73 °C, mercury has one of the narrowest ranges of its liquid state of any metal. Mercury occurs in deposits throughout the world mostly as cinnabar/ore (mercuric sulfide). The red pigment vermilion is mostly obtained by reduction from cinnabar. It is mostly found in Raxan, Mount Fu, and Doras.

    As a weapon
Cinnabar is highly toxic by ingestion or inhalation of the dust. Mercury poisoning can also result from exposure to water-soluble forms of mercury, inhalation of mercury vapor, or eating seafood contaminated with mercury.

    Worth in gold?
Mercury is bought and sold by the flask. The price has been wildly fluctuating lately from over $600 to $200 per flask depending on seller/buyers availability and amount of Mercury. It has to be 99.99% pure!

  • Sulfur (Poison/suffocating gas/highly combustible/Strong corrosive acid)

Sulfur is a bright yellow crystalline solid when at room temperature. Elemental sulfur can be found near hot springs and volcanic regions in many parts of the world. The smell of sulfur is associated with volcanic activity. Chemically, sulfur can react as either an oxidant or reducing agent in alchmey. In nature, sulfur can be found as the pure element and as Sulfide and Sulfate minerals.

    - sulfide: gas-like state that`s highly reactive, and do not occur in large amounts on Earth, except in flames and lightning. Sulfur      burns with a blue flame concomitant with formation of sulfur dioxide, notable for its peculiar suffocating odor.

    - sulfate minerals: A salt of sulfuric acid

    Sulfur as a weapon
Sulfur in small quantities is not by itself poisonous. At high concentrations it reacts with moisture to form sulfurous acid which in sufficient quantities may harm the lungs, eyes, or other tissues. Choking: In organisms without lungs such as insects or plants, it otherwise prevents respiration.

The dangerous materials definition of an oxidizing agent is a substance that is not necessarily combustible, but may, generally by yielding oxygen, cause or contribute to the combustion of other materials, and it is highly combustible on its own in powder form.

The higly combustibal powder Sulfur is present in many types of meteorites. There are tales about a gigantic meteorite that once incinerated a whole village that got unlucky enough to be hit by one. Meteorites to small to survive penetrating our atmosphere create a beautiful shooting star.

    3. Sulfuric acid is a highly corrosive strong mineral acid. It is a colorless to slightly yellow viscous liquid. Sulfuric acid approaches a 65% concentration. Moderate Sulfuric acid yield to 78%. Concentrated sulfuric acid lies at 98% and is more stable in storage. Is created by using moderate sulfuric acid, and heat it to 480 °C. The level to increases it to 99%. Then add liquid lead which burns 1% of the acid in a flash. Voila, 98% concentrated acid! (Warning! Do not attempt this alchemical recipe without a master alchemist a failure will result in a disintigrating explosion, and instant lead-poisioning to everyone who inhales the gas!)

    Worth in gold?
Sulfur price is relatively cheap. The price can vary though, it depends on the purity, content, location and type of sulfur. The price will usually range from $1 to $10 a gram! (1000 gold for 100 gram). This powder is the reagent to make the acid. Largest documented single crystal measuring 22×16×11 cm.

Unicorn horn
A unicorn's horn is the focus for its powers, and in order to use its spell-like abilities on other creatures the unicorn must touch them with it. Evil creatures greatly value unicorn horns as reagents for healing potions and other dark rites, and a single powdered unicorn horn counts as 1,600 gp when used as a component for crafting healing magic.
