Cairon, the eclypsed swamp

History and politics:

Cairon is an ancient swamp that used to be lush and green. After many ages the forest has begun sinking into the deep earth where moist and rotten wood has replaced the once beautiful forest. The forest is said to be unholy from its core. The reason why is not known, but so it is stated by folklore and tales that evil rises from the deep tunnels that go underground into the dark depths. The swamp is covered by dark clouds, and a mist always bathes the forestgrounds to add to its mystic nature.
Many castles, forts and mausoleums have sunken beneath the earth. It is said that some of the tombs have been emptied by graverobbers, and some of these groups have never returned.
The winter lasts longer in Cairon, making travel across the land hard in summer as well in winter when frost and ice covers the swamp.

Animal life:
The swamps would dictate it contains few animals, but there is actually a respectable number of animals living in this hostile area. Among the larger mammals are: red deer, roe deer, and wild boar, which are still hunted. Hares, rabbits, and various types of rodents are found both in the forests and in the fields. Carnivores include the fox, the genet, and the rare wildcat. Among smaller species are the badger, the otter, the beaver, and the brown bear.

Sea life:
The giant tortoise, seals and the blue shark inhabit the northern waters amongst some sea birds and small fish.
