| Brother of Nessiana and husband of Ánila, also known as Araw in elven, ("Lord of the Trees"), The Huntsman of the Valari, and The Great Rider. During the Years of the Two Trees, after most of the Valari had withdrawn completely from Middle-earth, Oromëk still hunted in the forests of Middle-earth on occasion. Thus, he was responsible for first finding the Elves to the east. Being a powerful huntsman, he was active in the struggles against Morgoroth, and was renowned for his anger, being the most terrible of the Valari in his wrath. He has a great horn called Valaróma and a great steed called Nahar. In "The Book of Lost Tales", there is the sentence "There sang Amillo joyously to his playing, Amillo who is named Omar, whose voice is the best of all voices, who knoweth all songs in all speeches; but whiles if he sang not to his brothers harp then would he be trilling in the gardens of Oromëk when after a time Nielíqui, little maiden, danced about its woods." Nielíqui is the daughter of Oromëk and Ánila. All kinds of savages, hunters, lizardfolk and druids revere Oromëk. NaharNahar (from the Valarin Næχærra)horse of Oromëk. It was the neighing of Nahar that alerted Oromëk to the presence of the elves when he came upon them for the first time. And the light from the sparks his hooves threw up were the first light in Valinor after the darkening of the trees. | |
